Evergreen part 18

Nova sat by the window a worried look plastered on her face. She had food, that was for sure, but that didn't mean safety. If Jim could not find a decent power source then it would last but a short while.

It was then that she heard it - or thought she heard it - a knock at the door.

"Hello?" She called out. There was no answer. Slowly she made her way to the door.

Evergreen part 17

Jim gunned it hard. The van sped up like a bullet. He didn't know what was going on around him as he ducked down. By the time he got up again they were long past him.

One down, however many more to go he thought

Since my life seems to be hectic enough updates will now come at random. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone.

Evergreen part 16

Shots rang out as he rounded the bend. Instinctively he ducked. When he peeped his head up again he could see the gunfire coming from up ahead off to the right. Two rival factions were having it out.

Jim sped up hoping to go by unnoticed. It was then he realized they had turned the gun on him.

Evergreen part 15

Nova watched him go. She didn't want him to leave and yet she knew he had to go. It was the final step in securing their future. She waved as he passed out of sight.

Jim had decided to head south where he knew that two of them were close together. If he didn't find one he would go for another one, a different one which was not that far off. The only problem; he hadn't been that far in a long time. Who knows what he would find.

Evergreen part 14

It had to be done, that was for sure. Still, Jim knew of only three places around where a generator use to be. He didn't know for sure if they were still there or not, it was only a guess.

Somewhat reluctantly he decided to go. Nothing was going to stop him from giving them a future, not gangs or warlords.

Evergreen part 13

"It's good we have one." Jim told her. "But if we want food we'll need a power source that lasts."

Nova shrugged. "At least we have food now right?"

"It won't last." Jim told her. "These things eat up electricity like nothing else."

Evergreen part 12

"Is that what I think it is?" Nova asked inclining her head.

"Yeah, I can't believe it but here it is." Jim told her as he held up the replicator.

"Does it still work?" Nova asked.

"That's what we are going to find out." Jim told her. He set it down and plugged it in to the spare battery they had.

Jim spoke into it like he knew he had to. "Computer, eggs, scrambled."

A light appeared in the center of the device and soon it was lit up entirely. When the light faded a plate bearing eggs shown before them.

Nova came back excited. Jim however wasn't so excited. "What's wrong Jim?"

Evergreen part 11

Nova worried every time he had to go out for food. She knew that radicalism quite literally roamed the streets, and to go into the wrong neighborhood meant death. He assured her that the path he took was a safe one and that the lords of the Depo could be trusted, but still she was fraught with worry.

It wasn't much longer later that he came home.

Evergreen Part 10

The old man was dressed in filthy rags. He hobbled down the street as though as though it were bright and sunshiny out. Suddenly he collapsed on the sidewalk. Jim pulled up and got out to inspect him. To his dismay the old timer was dead. "Well, I can't just leave you here." It was then he noticed it.

Sorry about Wednesday everyone

I had to work a third shift the night before and have been busy/forgetful to say anything about it. Tomorrow might be a little iffy at best.

Evergreen part 9

Jim drove back feeling it in his gut. He didn't know what to do; move in to the depo or take their chances out in the world. The depo was run by the lords and he had heard of their tyrant behavior to the citizens. He wanted no part in that. And yet, it was the safest place to be...

Jim ran his fingers through his hair. He'd have to bring it up with Nova once he got home.

Up ahead something caught his eye. "What the heck..."

Evergreen part 8

"I can't offer food to you no more. After this we are closing up shop." "What, why?" Chuck shrugged. "The other lords think it's too risky. If someone were to steal our replicators... "Anyway, you have a choice. Move here or take your chances out there. It's your choice."

Evergreen part 7

Jim was just about to back out when the doors started to open. Chuck was there waving as usual. Jim liked the obese guy. He reminded him of an old novelty character - Santa Claus. "Hey Jim, need the usual?" "Yeah Chuck, if you don't mind." "Things have changed here Jim..."

Evergreen part 6

The place had smelly people crowding around outside of it. Food was passed out like they were feeding cattle. The unwashed masses gathered and huddled together, mostly families and strays. This was the place known as a 'depo'. For a select few heaven on earth - free food to those who wanted it. Jim passed around to the back where the depo allowed vans and other cars that still worked in. He hoped the person on duty would recognize him or this would all be in vain. He pulled to just in front of one of the doors. It refused to grant him entrance. Jim smacked his hand down on the wheel in frustration. Now he was on his own.

Evergreen part 5

As he rounded a bend Jim's mind swam back, back to his years of starving as a kid. His mother and father would go days without eating just to make sure he had enough to survive. they traveled night and day wondering from one place to the next. Jim came to a stop sign and stopped. Absently he wondered if anyone else still stopped at these things, or if there were even cars left on the road for it. As the van drove his mind swam. Images of death and decay riveted themselves to the forefront. He did not at all know of a utopia. He marveled at the fact that he could read. Just a bit more and he'd be there. The most luxurious place for miles.

Evergreen part 4

Jim made his way down the crooked streets. He literally didn't see anyone for miles, which was a good thing. Before any hood with a gun would stick it in his face and demand food, even while driving they pull it out and made it known they were armed.

Jim didn't care so much about the idle passerby, he just wanted to get to the depo's to get food. With any luck Chuck would still be there. And ready to pass out food by the dozen.

Only time would tell.

Evergreen part 3

Jim got into his older than the hills van. He turned it over once - nothing.

"Ok, look you sucker." Jim began, "I'm hungry, she's hungry, and long story short, if you don't work we don't eat. Got that? Good."

Jim turned it over twice. Still nothing.

He put his head down on the wheel. He knew nothing about cars. They practically didn't exist in this God forsaken destopia. Still, it was what they needed and he intended to get it running.

"Come on you piece of crap..."

Thrice and beyond he tried it. Thankfully somewhere on the sixth time it went over. He blew a sigh of relief. "Now hopefully the other crime lords are out of town."

New posts to come at random

I'll try to post as regularly as I can but in the days to come you never know. Toodles!

Evergreen part 2

Nova Reign woke up feeling the hunger. Jim stifled her yawn for her. They lived together in an old apartment and a gang of kids came rushing past. As soon as they had gone he removed the hand.

Nova looked outside. "Any chance of you getting food today?"

"I'm going to head to one of the depos." Came the reply.

Nova's eyes widened. "You'll be killed or worse if you go there."

Jim gave a shrug. "Better than sitting here starving. I hope the crime lords are feeling generous."
